Components of Dry snorkel and their Functions

Snorkels tend to look the same to the eyes of an untrained person, but in the actual sense, there are several types: wet snorkel, dry snorkel, and semi-dry snorkels.

Each of these snorkel types has its unique features that make them well suited for certain people and uses.

A dry snorkel type is the only kind of snorkel that is exclusively made to stop water from gaining access into the breathing channel when submerged.

This unique feature in its design makes it the best choice for beginners who might be having issues with the skills involved in swimming.

This effect (prevention of water from entering) is established through a mechanism known as a float valve situated close to the entrance of the tube.

The valve seals the opening immediately if the snorkel is inside the water and this could take place in a wavy condition or when the snorkeler dives beneath the surface.

This unique feature is especially useful for amateur snorkelers since it prevents them from swallowing water.

If you desired to buy a high-quality snorkel without much stress, you will need to partner with a reputable and trusted snorkel supply company with many years of experience in the industry.

Parts of a dry snorkel

Dry snorkels have different components that work together and these features are:

1. Float valve:

This is the unique feature of dry snorkels that makes them different from other types of snorkels.

The float valve also referred to as a dry valve, is situated at the opening located at the top of the tube and seals when the snorkel is submerged to block water from entering.

2. Splash guard:

The float valve helps to prevent the entering of water when you snorkel in the water.

However, when you are outside the water, a splash guard which comes in the formed plastic performs a similar role.

This splash of water could come as a result of body movements in water from yourself or a nearby natator.

3. Tube:

This is the component of the snorkel where most of the air exchange takes place.

4. Flex tube:

Many dry snorkel products have a flexible tube at the bottom made up of silicone which provides it with an adjustable and easy fit to lessen jaw fatigue.

Apart from this, these features also ensure that the mouthpiece does not fall off when it is not in use or when you want to rest from snorkeling.

5. Mask clip:

Almost all snorkels have a little peg that helps in the attachment of the snorkel to the mask strap.

However, some design has a fast-release clip, which includes a swivel attachment for alternative mounting and a highly effective mechanism for easy detachment.

6. Mouthpiece:

To ensure an intact connection even after use for several hours, high-quality dry snorkels have a flexible silicone mouthpiece.

7. Reservoir:

The reservoir is located directly below the mouthpiece and this is where any water that gains access into the snorkel will be collected.

8. One-way purge valve:

This component of the dry snorkel allows the users to effectively remove water from the breathing tube.

If this part is absent from the snorkel, it will take extra experience and lung power on the part of the user to purge the water from the top of the snorkel.
